Hello all, I have been busy fishing which is why the blog hasnt been updated for a little while, sorry.
Anyway even though we thought the shop was full to capacity it has done its normal tardis impression and we now have even more stock! We are now FOX stockists so that means loads of new goodies for you all from bivvies, chairs and bedchairs to luggage, rods, reels and end tackle for all the carp anglers. Also we will have all the new products from the FOX Match range as and when it is released. Then as we go into the autumn and our thoughts start turning to predator fishing we have access to all the FOX rage predator tackle including all the sexy new lures and Jerkbaits. Cormorant Watch Website Launched by Angling Trust

The CormorantWatch website is quick and easy to use.

The Angling Trust has launched a new web site for you and your fishing friends to record sightings of cormorants, goosanders and mergansers throughout the UK. This includes a short video message from Angling Trust Chief Executive Mark Lloyd introducing this new initiative.

The new site at www.cormorantwatch.org is easy to use - it takes less than a minute to record your sighting.

Don't forget to bookmark the site, keep your eyes peeled and come back every time you want to report a sighting.

The Angling Trust succeeded in persuading the Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon to carry out a review of the cormorant licensing procedure and he has stated that he is prepared to take "bold decisions". As part of this review, the Trust needs data on the abundance of cormorants to convince the government to take decisive action. So now it's your turn - go to www.cormorantwatch.org and make a difference.

Angling Trust Chief Executive Mark Lloyd commented "This is a moment when anglers need to stand up and be counted to persuade politicians to simplify licensing procedures and allow greater controls on cormorant numbers - a decision which could affect the future of fishing for the next generation. Its not long now until the river fishing season opens again and I dont know about you but I cant wait. I am already checking my tackle and making sure I have everything that I need. There is nothing worse than getting to your peg, opening your box and discovering all your tackle exactly as you put it away in March! Missing shot and hooks, no float rubbers to attach that stick float! Now is the time to check your tackle box and of course you could always treat yourself to something new for a new season!
Check your fishing tackle now then you leave yourself plenty of time to call in and collect what you need. Make sure your club licence hasnt expired and if it has get a new one, of course we all have our new rod licence by now dont we? We have spent a week cramming stock back into the shop and cleaning dust off all the things that we couldnt move while the building work was going on and we are now back to full Alladin's cave status! We dont think we can get any more in there at the moment. Mainline New Grange. NOW IN STOCK!

We have got the extension to the shop finished and we are in the process of sorting out where everything is going to fit in the new space that we have created. Lookout for some real bargains over the next couple of weeks as we re-organise all the stock.
However in the meantime Mainline Baits have released the "New Grange" line of baits. Those of you that remember the original "Grange" will know what an awesome bait this was. Well after a couple of years of intensive testing by some of carp fishing's biggest names here it is again. We of course have the freezer baits in stock now and we can get the dumbells and dips to match. So come and see us and grab some while stocks last.

Closed Monday and Tuesday

We are going to be closed on Monday 9th May and Tuesday 10th May as we are extending the shop. As I type this we have knocked a wall down and got the new lintel in place so now we just have to re-plaster and make good then put all the stock back on the walls. Hopefully everything will be complete by Tuesday evening ready to open again on Wednesday morning. *Monday evening now and we have had a productive day, hopefully the plaster is going off ready to be painted in the morning then while that is drying we can put up some shelves and start to reinstate the stock.

We have just taken delivery of 1lb packs of unwashed squid which is proving to be a killer cod bait on the north Devon coast also packs of frozen peeler. We also have some great deals on Greys ready tied sea rigs.
As the rivers shut for the close season and the local stillwaters start to gear up for the new season we have ready prepared hemp at only £2.75 a kilo and also flavoured hemp and particles by Dynamite Baits. Well at the moment we are halfway through a bit of a refit in the shop, as you can see from the picture it looks like a bomb site. However there is method to our madness, we have a lot of new stock for the coming new season and we need to make room for it. We have a lot of new sea angling gear including Storm feathers, Greys sea rigs, Sea rods byLeeda, Greys, Shimano and more. We have a load of new carp rods by Chub, Wychwood, JRC amongst others. Also new pole tackle and pole rigs, tackle boxes, seat boxes, reels by wychwood, mitchell, abu garcia, fox and others.

We are pleased to announce that we now have oiled Black Lug and Frozen Peeler crabs back in stock.
This product is becoming by far one of our top sellers, it consists of 10 fresh Blacklug that are approx 6-8 inches long sometimes bigger, using a specially formulated oil, that not only enhances the scent of the worm, but holds it in its gutted format without having to freeze them. A product which has become very sought after and has produced some fantastic results especially when used with peelers. Proving to be an exceptional Cod bait. These are a shelf life product and will keep in your tackle box easily for 3-4 months. No need to chill or freeze!!

Peelers and softback crabs are a very sought after bait. They are very hard to come by in number and everyone always sells out of them. They are so popular with sea anglers because of their ability to attract almost any fish within the area. They are often found by locals along the shoreline underneath rocks. The crabs come into the shore to escape the dangers of the deeper water when peeling, as they can be easily found by predators due to their strong scent. Peeler crabs are renowned for catching fish such as Bass, Skate and Eels amongst others so it is understandable that peelers are highly prized amongst anglers.

Well after a couple of months of wrangling with the phone company who wouldnt give us our number back when we changed phone companies, we now have a re-instated phone line so you can call the shop again on 01884-839273.
At the moment we are negotiating with several new tackle suppliers to get some new and very interesting stock on the shelves ready for when we re-open fully at the end of February so watch this space!
In the meantime I hope you are all managing to get some time out fishing in between the floods and the ice! Everywhere was starting to pick up again after the freeze and then we got this latest cold snap. Well at least the pike are being obliging on the canal and there have been some decent Chub coming out from the free stretch of the river Culm.

Quick amendment to that post, I went to go pike fishing on the canal today and the spot I had my eye on was completely frozen over again!

The Big Fish Fight

I doubt there is an angler in the land with a TV or computer who is not aware of the Big Fish Fight campaign championed by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstal. Check out the signatures during the last week which have climbed rapidly to almost half a million and if you haven’t done so, please add your name! If we continue to allow the senseless practice of discarding thousands of tons of perfectly viable fish back into the sea dead, then how long until our fish stocks are so depleted that we as pleasure anglers can no longer enjoy our sport. Even if you have never gone sea-fishing you owe it to your children and grandchildren to get involved now before it is too late.

As well as the carp tackle and baits we also stock a fairly comprehensive range of frozen pike baits. I myself am a pike angler so I like to have a choice of baits in stock. We normally have available from the freezer: Bream, Herring, Mackerel, Roach, Rainbow Trout, Sardines, Smelts, Sprats, Lamprey sections and Eel sections. Along with the deadbaits we also stock a range of end-tackle including ready made snap tackles, live and deadbait floats, sinkers, trace wire, trebles, crimps, swingers and drop-arm indicators and of course the all important unhooking equipment.

For those of you that don't know we are an independent fishing tackle shop that has been trading in Cullompton high street for the last 3 years. When we first opened we used to mostly specialise in Carp Baits. However over the last 3 years we have expanded into tackle for carp fishing and other branches of angling. We now stock not only a wide range of carp baits including our very own highly successful range of boilies, we also stock a full range of carp tackle from some of the leading names like JRC, Korda, Gardner, Nash and more. We keep the full range of Korda rig bits and end tackle in stock at all times. We also stock all sorts of tackle for the Coarse, Sea and Predator angler wether you are an out and out match angler, a specimen hunter or just simply a pleasure angler we aim to have everything that you need. Hello and welcome to the Cully Carp and Coarse Blog. I will try to update the blog at least once a week with our latest stock, special offers etc. At the moment we are only open "winter hours" which are Monday 9.00 til 13.00, Friday 09.00 til 16.30, Saturday 09.00 til 16.00. We will probably stick to these hours until March when we will resume our normal 7 day a week opening.
